Hema Malini is an Indian actress, director, producer and a Bharatanatyam dancer-choreographer. Making her acting debut in Sapno Ka Saudagar (1968), she went on to appear in numerous Bollywood films. She is regarded as one of the greatest and most influential actresses in the history of Indian cinema. She established herself as one of Hindi cinema`s leading actresses, noted for both her comic and dramatic roles, her beauty, and her accomplished classical dancing.
Hema Malini is among the most successful female film stars in the history of Indian cinema. Appearing in over 150 films in her career span, she has starred in a large number of successful films, and her performances in both commercial and art house cinema, were often recognised. During her career, she has been nominated 11 times for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. She was presented with the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award and honoured with the Padma Shri which is the fourth-highest civilian honour, by the Government of India. She was awarded the prestigious "SaMaPa Vitasta Award 2006" in Delhi by SaMaPa – "Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts" by Music Legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori for her lifetime contribution and service to Indian culture and Dance.
Hema Malini is a trained Bharatanatyam artist and is also trained in Kuchipudi and Odissi.
She played the role of Goddess Durga in television serial Jai Mata Ki which aired on Star Plus. She owned the editorship of New Woman, a Hindi woman`s magazine. In 2000 she was appointed as the first-ever woman chairperson of the National Film Development Corporation for three years. She owns a dance school, Natya Vihar Kalakendra.
She has a huge fan following and for the third time ever she will be coming to Singapore on the 4th of September 2016 to perform her dance ballet ` Durga` where she will play the roles of Sati, Parvati and Durga.
